Dagur Oskarsson
Dagur Óskarsson (b. 1977) is an Icelandic designer graduated from Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2008. He grew up in Dalvík, a small fishing village in northern Iceland with long, dark winters and snow drifts sometimes higher than the houses. He currently lives and works in Reykjavík with fond memories of sledding under the northern lights with a frostbitten nose.
This sled is based on the archetypical wooden workhorse that used to be made by laymen and carpenters alike in Dalvík. The sleds came in different shapes and sizes, depending on intended usage: anything from plunging down a hillside to dragging groceries through the snow-covered landscape.
The project endeavors to celebrate a useful object from the past and present it to the coming generations in a modern guise.
The polyethylene plastic sled is cast through rotational moulding and produced by Promens in Dalvík.
